BMW Motorcycles
BMW has always held a reputation for being the best, and
that reputation extends onto the line of motorcycles that it
produces.
F 650 GS
BMW is traditionally known for their larger sized
motorcycles however their 652cc F 650 GS bike earns them
bragging rights within the in the Enduro class and 250cc+
category as well. This smaller version is a single-ride machine
but it's liquid-cooled single-cylindered tight engine provides
plenty of power and torque for traveling just about
anywhere.
One of the things that makes this bike stand out is its low
vibration even at high rpms. Most single-cylinder engines just
don't do that and it's a feature that's widely appreciated at
the Paris-Dakar rally - the home of F 650 GS's top honors. Its
wheelbase is just over 58 inches (147cm) and it's seat height
reaches 30 inches (76 inches) which makes this model a perfect
size for rallying.
K 1200R
BMW's K 1200R is part of a new category of motorcycle called
"the naked bike." Naked bikes are muscle bikes that provide a
lot more power than trimmings and BMW is the one known to
really defined and mastered this category. The K 1200R
roars with 163hp and 94 ft-lb (foot-pound) of torque but by
categorical definition, lacks fairings and other standard
additions installed for looks. The bike already travels at low
speeds so its wind resistance is a just a minor percentage of
its total drag. Traveling under 30 mph/50 kph, the K 1200R's
fairings really contribute a small percentage to eliminating
wind resistance. As a naked bike however, it's important to
remember that the K 1200R is built for speed - not aesthetics.
It simply delivers and its 16-valve, water-cooled, 1157cc
engine makes that delivery easy.
K 1200 LT
BMW's K 1200 LT is probably the beefiest bike of their
entire line and this particular model is a fully-decked model
of its tradition of building large motorcycles. It's swept-back
windscreen, comfortable driver and passenger seats (including a
large backrest) takes touring to a whole new level.
It's a bit less powerful than BMW's K 1200R though, however
the K 1200 LT model's power (116hp) and torque (86 ft-lb) gives
it a smooth and quiet ride. Its comfort is the result of BMW's
own proprietary Telelever/Paralever (front/rear) design and its
handlebars are a perfect ergonomic fit for those looking for
reduced shoulder fatigue on long highway trips.
BMW offers quite a lineup of superior bikes that puts this
company among one of the top 10 bike manufacturers in the
world. And that makes it worth serious investigation for both
hobbyists and professionals alike.
